Narrative
GUTHRIE CENTER, IA – An 83-year-old man operating a Ford F-150 hit a 69-year-old man riding a bicycle with an attached buggy, leading the cyclist to die from his wounds Wednesday.
This collision took place before 5:45 p.m. on the westbound lanes of Highway 44. Upon arrival, first responders took the cyclist — Wayne Hayes, from Guthrie Center — to Guthrie County Hospital, where he later died.
The pickup truck driver — Francis Junior Flanery, a Panora resident — was unharmed. At this time, it is unclear if he will face any charges or citations.
